Guidelines

TENNIS LADDER, 2001

TENNIS  LADDER (2005)

·        Perpetual trophies will be awarded to the men’s and ladies’ ladder champions.  The champion’s name will be engraved on the respective trophy for the presentation.

·        Champions to be decided at the end of each year.

·        Winners will be decided on the basis of the total number of games won in the year, less their two worst rounds.

·        Each round will be played off in approximately 3-4 weeks.  Completion date for each round will be shown on each list and the list will be removed on the indicated date.  There will be approximately 10 to 12 rounds in the year.

·        Promotion/demotion at the end of each round will alternate between one-up, one-down and two-up, two-down after successive rounds, - however, the administrator will make arbitrary adjustments from time to time.  The main intention is to ensure that players are playing against opponents of roughly equal standard at the same time as ensuring that players that earn promotion or demotion do actually achieve it.  In addition, every effort will be made to avoid the situation of the same people being drawn together all the time.

·        New players can join the ladder at any time during the year and will be slotted in at a level commensurate with their standard.

·        Individuals that do not play any games for two consecutive rounds may have their names removed from the ladder and will have to apply for re-inclusion.

·        Players can skip one round of the ladder and be automatically included in the following round.  This is done by putting a ‘tick’ or ‘X’ in the box “Omit from next Round” alongside their name.  People should strongly consider doing this prior to going on vacation or if they are injured and expect to be available within a few weeks.

·        If a player is aware that they will not be available to play any matches for a period of more than one round, they should put a ‘tick’ or ‘X’ in the box “Omit Until Further Notice” alongside their name.  When they wish to re-join, they simply add their name to the “New Applicants” list.  Players are strongly urged to make use of this facility as it is very frustrating for other ladder members if people are not available for matches.

·        At the end of each round, a running total of games won will be displayed on the tennis notice board and will also be e-mailed to any members of the ladder that submit e-mail addresses.

·        Ladies are entitled to play on the men’s ladder.

·        The playing format:

Ø     For a four person group, two short sets to be played (i.e. first to 6).  This means that the total possible score per match per person is 12.

Ø     For a three person group, the scoring can be done in any one of the following three ways:

à       Play three sets (first to 6 in each set).

à       Play two sets (first to 9 in each set) and these sets need not be played at the same time.

à       Play two sets (first to 6) and divide total score by 2 and multiply by 3.

à       In each case, the total possible score per person is 18 for each match.

·        Players can claim a walk-over (and the maximum points) for a match for any of the following circumstances:

à        If an opponent does not turn up for a pre-arranged match.

à       If an opponent is indisposed or cannot for whatever reason play within the allocated time-frame.

In the event of a walk-over, the agreement of the other player should be obtained and the score (12-0) written up on the result sheet on the notice board.

·        Any club members wishing to be included in the tennis ladder should enter their name, together with telephone number and if relevant, e-mail address on the “New Applicants” form on the notice board.

·        For any queries, please contact Sean Moran at 061-229774 (H) or 087-2546628 or by
